Alameda County voters are gearing up to weigh in on the recall of District Attorney Pamela Price, a progressive prosecutor who campaigned on platforms of offender rehabilitation and police accountability. However, critics allege that her policies have undermined public safety, leading to a contentious recall effort just two years after her election in November 2022.

The decision to hold a recall election for Price was finalized by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, setting the stage for a pivotal vote on November 5, to coincide with the general election.

Prior to assuming the role of district attorney, Price built a reputation as a civil rights attorney, advocating for women, victims of domestic violence, and youth entangled in the criminal justice system.

However, her detractors argue that since taking office, Price's policies have emboldened criminals, contributing to a surge in crime across Oakland, the county's largest city. In response to the rise in criminal activity, Governor Gavin Newsom recently deployed highway patrol officers and state prosecutors to assist local law enforcement efforts.
