Small city to get California's newest Costco; Residents worried about traffic with 15,000 car trips

The long-awaited Costco project in Brentwood is finally moving forward after a lawsuit that had stalled the project was dismissed. The City of Brentwood announced on Thursday that West Coast Home Builders, the only remaining plaintiff, has filed a Request for Dismissal of the lawsuit against the City and Costco, clearing the way for construction to begin this summer.

“West Coast Home Builders, the only remaining plaintiff/petitioner in the Costco lawsuit, has just filed a Request for Dismissal of the City of Brentwood and Costco. Construction could proceed this summer and be open early next year,” the City stated.

The Costco Wholesale project will involve the construction of a warehouse and a fuel facility located just south of Lone Tree Plaza Drive and east of Heidorn Ranch Road. The development requires the reconfiguration of two parcels (19.04 acres and 4.02 acres) into four smaller parcels.

While the project has garnered significant enthusiasm, some residents have raised concerns about the anticipated increase in traffic, with an estimated 15,000 vehicles expected to visit the area daily, including 7,400 specifically for Costco. However, the extension from Sand Creek to Heidorn Ranch Road is projected to be completed by the time Costco opens, which a traffic study suggests will reduce traffic on Lone Tree Plaza Drive by 38%.
