At 1:45 PM on Saturday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District swiftly responded to a vegetation fire in Antioch, sparking concerns among local residents. The blaze, reported on a hillside near the intersection of Asilomar Drive and Palomar Drive, initially spanned approximately half an acre and was driven by strong winds towards nearby homes.

Upon arrival, the crew from Engine 88 assessed the situation and determined the fire's potential threat to residential areas. Recognizing the urgency, Battalion 8 promptly requested additional resources for structure protection on Yorkshire Drive, escalating the response to a two-alarm fire.

Despite the challenging conditions, the coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams proved effective. By 2:17 PM, just over half an hour after the initial report, firefighters managed to halt the forward progress of the fire. Their swift action prevented the flames from causing significant damage to the surrounding homes and infrastructure.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
