Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Friday that California National Guard prosecutors will begin handling cases originating in Alameda County following a recent expansion of the California Highway Patrol’s deployment in Oakland.

The agreement, formalized through a memorandum of understanding between the California National Guard’s Counterdrug Task Force and the California Department of Justice, is modeled after a successful partnership in San Francisco.

This collaboration, which has bolstered felony narcotics convictions in San Francisco, aims to enhance justice in the Bay Area.

Newsom expressed gratitude for the swift action by the Attorney General and the California National Guard, emphasizing their role in securing justice for local communities.
