San Francisco Mayor London Breed has highlighted the success of the city's new drone program in enhancing public safety. Implemented following the approval of Proposition E, the program aims to improve response times and safety for the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), according to the Mayor's office.

The SFPD has rolled out six drones as part of the initial deployment, with additional units expected. The drones are operated by FAA-certified pilots and are integrated with existing technologies such as Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) and public safety cameras, the Mayor's Office stated.

Recent successes include the use of drones in two significant incidents: On July 26, drones helped track and apprehend suspects involved in car break-ins near the Embarcadero. The following day, the drones assisted in locating and arresting an auto burglary crew, resulting in the recovery of stolen property, according to the Mayor's office.

Mayor Breed emphasized that the drones are used responsibly, with strict privacy safeguards in place, marking the first air support for the SFPD in 24 years.
