Transit riders give troubled California transit system its highest satisfaction rating ever

The 2024 Muni Rider Survey results are in, and they highlight significant improvements in rider satisfaction. Conducted between February 12 and April 2, 2024, with feedback from 553 riders, the survey shows the highest satisfaction rating since its inception over 20 years ago. Notably, 72% of riders rated Muni as "excellent" or "good," a rise from 66% in 2022.

Improvements have been most noticeable in Downtown and Chinatown, where satisfaction soared from 69% to 78%. Key enhancements include on-time performance increasing from 47% to 60%, accurate arrival times jumping from 49% to 64%, and satisfaction with frequent service up from 51% to 63%. Riders also reported increased satisfaction with trip times, rising from 65% to 69%.

Muni's enhanced service frequency and reliability have encouraged more San Franciscans to use public transit regularly for both commuting and leisure activities. The survey reflects a growing appreciation for Muni’s efforts to make transit fast, frequent, and reliable, benefiting the entire city.

These survey results are a testament to Muni's commitment to listening to riders and continuously improving service. The 2024 survey utilized a hybrid approach of telephone interviews and online surveys to gauge rider feedback and track progress.
