Central California residents can expect a gradual cooling trend after yesterday's peak temperatures, with conditions returning to near-normal or below-normal by Monday. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Mojave Slopes, effective from 5 PM PDT tonight through 5 AM PDT Friday, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Highways 395, 14, and 58 will be affected, and motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution.

Temperatures are forecasted to range between 102-105°F through Sunday, with moderate to major heat risks in the Valley and Coastal Range. However, as the overhead ridge weakens, temperatures will decrease daily. By Monday, the likelihood of 100°F or higher will drop significantly across the Valley, except for the Kern County Desert.

Next week, as a Pacific trough moves in, confidence is growing for a stretch of near-normal to below-normal temperatures. The San Joaquin Valley is expected to see maximum temperatures at or below 95°F, with higher confidence in the Sierra Foothills, where temperatures are also likely to remain below 95°F. Looking further ahead, there are different scenarios for late next week, but both suggest a continuation of cooler-than-average temperatures in the region.
