Southern California is in for a hot and potentially stormy weekend as higher pressure and increasing monsoonal moisture move into the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a significant rise in temperatures on Saturday, with a chance of thunderstorms in the mountains and deserts during the afternoon and evening.

Today has been mostly sunny and hot inland, with temperatures already a few degrees higher than yesterday, signaling the start of the warming trend. While thunderstorm potential is lower than initially expected for today, conditions may still be favorable for several storms tomorrow.

The increased moisture has also affected the marine layer, making it less robust. As high pressure builds over the Southwest, true fog could develop in coastal areas, though it will likely be patchy.

Looking ahead, the high pressure is expected to weaken slightly starting Sunday, leading to a slight cooling trend and drier conditions. By Monday, temperatures should return closer to normal, and the marine layer will likely recover, bringing more consistent coastal clouds.
