The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is enhancing its services by introducing a Spanish language version of its popular eLearning driver’s license renewal course. This move reflects the DMV's dedication to improving accessibility for California's diverse population.

Previously available only in English, the interactive eLearning course now includes Spanish, allowing customers to complete their knowledge test requirement in their preferred language. The course, which consists of seven modules with quizzes following each section, is accessible 24/7 on various devices including computers, tablets, and smartphones. This no-fail option has seen significant use since its English launch in 2022, with over 45,000 Californians having completed it recently.

“This expansion is a crucial step in our efforts to better serve all Californians,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “By offering the eLearning course in Spanish, we are making our online services more inclusive and convenient.”

The eLearning course, which takes about 45 minutes to complete, is ideal for those who find traditional exams challenging or prefer a different learning format. While the online course reduces the time spent in DMV offices, customers may still need to visit in person to provide necessary documents, take a photo, and complete a vision screening before receiving their renewed license.

In addition to the Spanish course, the DMV provides its online knowledge test in 35 languages, available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Plans are underway to add Chinese to the eLearning options, though a timeline for this addition has not yet been set.
