Southern California is bracing for intense heat today, with temperatures soaring to around 105 degrees in far interior areas and near 110 degrees in the deserts, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard. The hottest spots include the Antelope Valley and Paso Robles, where an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect.

Marine layer clouds provided limited relief this morning, retreating from coastal areas as the day progressed. The Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys are expected to experience near-advisory-level heat, with triple-digit temperatures persisting across interior valleys and lower mountain areas.

A slight chance of thunderstorms is predicted for the northeastern portion of Los Angeles County, particularly the Antelope Valley and eastern San Gabriel Mountains. Cooler temperatures are anticipated starting Sunday, as a low-pressure trough replaces the current ridge along the West Coast.
