Southern California is bracing for a hot day with increased monsoonal moisture, leading to a chance of thunderstorms over the mountains and deserts. According to the National Weather Service San Diego, temperatures will soar inland, reaching the low 110s in the low desert and 96-108 degrees in the high desert and Inland Empire.

Coastal areas will experience patchy low clouds and fog, with a mostly sunny day anticipated. Despite a weakening marine layer, the coast is expected to stay cooler compared to the inland regions.

Thunderstorm activity is likely, especially in the mountains and desert areas, with the potential for localized flash flooding and gusty winds. However, recent model trends suggest that the frequency and intensity of storms might be lower than previously expected. The chance of thunderstorms will persist into Sunday, though the monsoonal moisture is forecasted to decrease through Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to cool gradually starting Monday, returning to near-normal levels by the end of the week. Coastal areas will see more consistent low cloud coverage and fog as high pressure weakens and a coastal eddy develops. While hints of increased monsoonal moisture are possible later in the week, the forecast remains dry for now.
