San Joaquin Valley residents can expect cooler temperatures this week as a trough moves inland, bringing relief from the recent heatwave. The National Weather Service in Hanford reports that temperatures will lower to near-normal levels by Monday, ending the streak of triple-digit heat.

Today marks the last day of widespread temperatures 4 to 8 degrees above average, with highs reaching the low 90s starting Monday. The probability of exceeding 100 degrees on Monday drops to just 10% or less.

Despite moderating humidity, the risk of grass fires remains due to elevated afternoon winds, which are expected to increase today and Monday, particularly in wind-prone areas. The cooler, near-average temperatures are forecast to persist through the week, with the possibility of a closed low forming along the Pacific Northwest coast by Friday, further maintaining the cooler trend. Conditions are expected to remain dry with daily breezes.
