Residents in Kern County, particularly in the Mojave Desert Slopes and Indian Wells Valley, should brace for strong, gusty winds late Monday afternoon and overnight. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford has issued a Wind Advisory from 5 PM Monday to 5 AM Tuesday, with winds potentially gusting over 45 mph in some areas, especially near the intersection of Highways 178 and 14.

This windy weather is part of a broader shift as an upper trough moves inland from the Pacific Northwest, bringing a cooler air mass to the region. After a period of above-normal temperatures, the Central Valley and surrounding areas will experience a return to near-normal temperatures for much of this week. Highs may still reach around 100°F in parts of the San Joaquin Valley on Monday, but a gradual cooling trend is expected through the week.

Despite the cooler temperatures, elevated winds and moderating relative humidity values keep the risk of grass fires high, particularly in eastern Kern County. The NWS advises residents to remain cautious, especially during the windy afternoons on Monday and Tuesday.

Looking ahead, temperatures may dip further over the weekend as models suggest the development of an upper low off the Pacific Northwest coast. However, the exact impact on local temperatures remains uncertain.
