Today, Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, warmly welcomed California’s Olympians as they returned home from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. California athletes played a significant role in Team USA's success, earning a total of 22 medals, including six golds. Out of the 594 U.S. athletes who competed, 121 hailed from the Golden State, the highest representation from any state in the nation.

Governor Newsom and First Partner Siebel Newsom were joined by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and members of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee at Los Angeles International Airport to greet the returning athletes. Mayor Bass carried the official Olympic flag back to Los Angeles, as the city prepares to host the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

“The Olympics and Paralympics are coming to Los Angeles in 2028, and California couldn’t be more excited,” said Governor Newsom. “These Games are an opportunity to show the best of our state, and our nation. We look forward to highlighting not only the majesty of California, but also our strength, integrity, sportsmanship, and perseverance. It was an honor to meet Mayor Bass, Olympic staff, and our incredible Olympians on their return to the United States – as champions.”
