The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Saturday due to expected gusty winds and low humidity. The increased breezes this weekend are predicted to bring widespread critical wind conditions, particularly affecting portions of northeastern California and western Nevada. Wind gusts are expected to exceed 30 mph, with ridgelines experiencing even stronger gusts between 40 to 50 mph. This will lead to elevated fire weather concerns and could impact recreational activities, aviation, and lake conditions.

Dry conditions will persist as a trough and several shortwaves pass through the Pacific Northwest, maintaining a southwest flow across the Sierra and western Nevada. Despite some weakening Pacific storms passing through, the chances for wetting rains remain low, with only light showers possible in northeastern California on Thursday and Saturday.

Temperature-wise, the region is set to experience seasonable warmth without significant heatwaves over the next 7 to 10 days. Cooler nights are anticipated, with the possibility of morning frosts in some Sierra valleys late this week and into the weekend. Breezes late Friday into Saturday are expected to moderate temperatures, keeping conditions relatively mild despite the cooler nights.
