Motorists in the Chino and Chino Hills areas should prepare for significant traffic disruptions this weekend as the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) announces a full closure of southbound State Route 71 (SR-71). The closure is necessary for final paving operations as part of the ongoing 71/91 Interchange Project.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 16, and continuing through 5 a.m. on Monday, August 19, southbound SR-71 will be completely closed at Butterfield Ranch Road/Euclid Avenue. This closure will allow construction crews to safely complete paving and shift traffic onto the new southbound lanes of SR-71.

In addition to the full closure of southbound SR-71, the connectors from southbound SR-71 to both eastbound and westbound State Route 91 (SR-91) will also be closed during the same time frame.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid using southbound SR-71 during the closure period. Instead, drivers should consider alternative routes, such as taking southbound State Route 57 (SR-57) or southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) to reach SR-91 and other destinations.

The 71/91 Interchange Project is a critical infrastructure improvement designed to enhance traffic flow and safety in the region. The RCTC appreciates the public's patience and cooperation during this final phase of paving operations and encourages motorists to plan ahead, allowing extra travel time and considering alternative routes.
