Northern California is set to experience near-normal to slightly below-normal temperatures over the next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento. A strong upper trough developing off the coast of Oregon will bring cooler weather, breezy conditions, and a slight chance of showers in the higher terrain north of Redding.

Starting Friday, the deepening trough will lead to a cooling trend across the region, with increased onshore flow. By Saturday, temperatures are expected to drop further, and southerly winds will pick up as surface pressure gradients strengthen. While these conditions would typically elevate fire risk, the NWS notes that higher humidity levels will likely prevent widespread fire danger.

In northwest Shasta County, there is a 10-25% chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms on Saturday due to the influence of the upper trough. The pattern is expected to remain relatively unchanged on Sunday, keeping temperatures at or below normal for mid-August.
