Northwest California is set for an unseasonably cool and wet weekend as an upper-level trough pushes a cold front onshore today. The National Weather Service in Eureka has forecast rain for Del Norte, Humboldt, and Trinity counties, with a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

Residents in Northern Mendocino and Lake counties may experience light rain showers, with gusty winds up to 30 mph expected this afternoon, particularly in eastern Lake County. Inland temperatures will be unusually cool, with highs only reaching the low 80s in warmer valleys.

Thunderstorms could bring moderate rain and hail, particularly in the late morning and afternoon. However, the storm threat is expected to diminish by evening as the trough moves northward.

Looking ahead, cool and dry weather is anticipated on Sunday, with temperatures gradually warming into next week but remaining near or slightly below seasonal norms. Coastal clouds and valley fog are likely to linger, with light drizzle possible in the morning.
