The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento has issued its latest forecast, predicting near to slightly below normal temperatures for the region through the week, with cooler conditions and potential thunderstorms arriving late this week.

Currently, the area is influenced by an upper-level trough off the Pacific Northwest and ridging over the Rocky Mountains, maintaining dry weather through mid-week. Temperatures will gradually rise, with Tuesday expected to be the warmest day, featuring highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s in the Valley and Delta, and 70s to 80s in higher elevations. A Delta breeze will bring breezy winds and cooling in the late afternoons and evenings.

Later in the week, a cold low-pressure system is expected to push through Northern California, bringing a 20-50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the northern mountains and Sacramento Valley on Thursday night and Friday. Some showers may linger into Saturday, with the possibility of light snow mixed with rain at high peaks in the Sierra and Lassen National Park.

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with highs in the Valley only reaching the mid-70s to around 80 on Friday. Conditions will warm slightly by Sunday, with near-normal temperatures expected to return early next week as ridging builds back into the area.
