Portland, Oregon's weather this week is set to shift from dry and mild conditions to increased chances of rain and cooler temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, Monday will start with morning clouds that will gradually clear, leading to sunnier afternoon skies. However, residents on the Long Beach Peninsula and north Oregon coast should prepare for evening rain showers as a low-pressure system lingers offshore.

The system is expected to move inland by Tuesday, bringing more widespread showers primarily north of a line extending from Newport to Salem to Mount Hood. While the southern parts of this line are likely to stay dry, the northern areas could see a 25-50% chance of rain, with higher probabilities of 60-75% along the south Washington and north Oregon coast and Willapa Hills. Rainfall amounts may vary, with potential totals of 0.1 to 0.2 inches in the most affected areas.

By late Wednesday into Thursday, another upper-level low moving southward along the British Columbia coast will bring another round of rain across western Washington and Oregon. There is also a 15% chance of thunderstorms associated with this system.

Overall, residents should expect continued showers into next weekend with cooler-than-normal temperatures. The changing weather conditions call for preparedness as the week progresses, particularly for those in the more affected northern regions.
