The Wildlife Crossings Across America tour has launched its second stage, focusing on California’s pressing need for enhanced wildlife connectivity. Starting on August 19th, the tour covers nearly 2,000 miles across the state, spotlighting over two dozen key locations for potential wildlife crossings.

Central to this stage is the introduction of California Wildlife Reconnected, a public-private partnership aimed at expanding wildlife crossings throughout the state. This initiative, backed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the California Natural Resources Agency, Caltrans, The Wildlife Crossing Fund, and the National Wildlife Federation, builds on the success of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing.

The tour began at Highway 395 near Honey Lake, emphasizing the critical need for these projects to connect fragmented habitats. Governor Newsom highlighted the importance of these crossings in conserving California’s diverse ecosystems and fulfilling the state’s 30x30 conservation goal.
