Northern Nevada is set to experience a shift in weather conditions this week. Currently, the region is under dry and breezy conditions with slightly below normal temperatures, which will continue through Wednesday. Tonight’s temperatures are expected to range from the mid-40s to upper 50s in western Nevada, and from the low 30s to low 40s in the Sierra Mountains.

Starting Thursday, a significant change is forecasted as an upper air low pressure system approaches from the Pacific Northwest. This will bring increased winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 mph along the California-Nevada border. The gusty winds may enhance fire weather risks and cause blowing dust, especially in desert areas.

Precipitation chances are expected to rise, particularly in northeastern regions, with western Lassen County seeing the highest likelihood at around 50%. Rain and light snow may occur, especially in higher elevations of the Sierra. Precipitation chances will continue into Saturday with varying probabilities across the region. Severe weather is not anticipated, but monitoring will continue as conditions develop.
