Phoenix will continue to experience hot temperatures today, with highs reaching 110-115°F and excessive heat warnings in effect for lower desert areas. However, a shift in the weather pattern is expected mid-week.

A significant cool down is anticipated as a longwave trough from the Pacific Northwest deepens, causing the subtropical ridge to move east. This change will lead to an increase in thunderstorm activity through Wednesday and Thursday. Moisture levels will rise tonight, potentially bringing nocturnal showers and storms to southern Arizona.

Thunderstorm chances are forecasted at 30-40% for south-central Arizona and 20-30% for southwestern areas on Wednesday. The storms could bring strong outflow winds, blowing dust, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. By Thursday, precipitation chances will decrease as drier air moves in, but temperatures will remain above normal, cooling slightly but still above 110°F.
