In a significant boost to California's wildfire response and resilience efforts, CAL FIRE has announced $90.8 million in grants for 94 local wildfire prevention projects across the state. This funding is part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s strategy to enhance community resilience and reduce the impacts of catastrophic wildfires.

The grants, awarded through CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program, will support projects focused on hazardous fuels reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and public education. Notably, over two-thirds of these projects benefit low-income and disadvantaged communities.

Key funded projects include tree trimming and removal along evacuation routes in Alameda County, hazardous fuels reduction in Fresno County, and vegetation removal near Leggett in Mendocino County. Other notable efforts include fuel reduction near Truckee in Nevada and Placer counties, and roadside fuel reduction in Santa Cruz County.

The initiative also supports wildfire prevention efforts in San Luis Obispo and Siskiyou counties, as well as projects in Riverside and Orange counties aimed at increasing defensible space and safeguarding homes.
