California's fast food industry has reached a historic milestone with 750,500 jobs statewide, the highest number ever recorded. According to recent state and federal employment data, the sector has added 11,000 jobs in the four months since Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation raising the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 per hour, the Governor's Office stated.

The industry has experienced consistent monthly job growth throughout 2024, with each month showing gains compared to the same month in 2023, the Governor's Office added. For instance, fast food jobs grew from 724,900 in January to 750,500 in July, surpassing the previous year’s figures, according to the Governor's Office.

Governor Newsom highlighted the positive impact of the wage increase, stating, "What’s good for workers is good for business. California’s economy and workers are proving wrong those who predicted doom for the industry."
