A strong weather system is set to impact Northern California later this week, bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and the potential for isolated thunderstorms, primarily in areas north of I-80.

Today will be the last day of quiet weather, with valley highs ranging from the mid-80s to low 90s and temperatures in the foothills and mountains between the low 60s and low 80s. However, beginning Thursday, the region will experience gusty winds ranging from 20-35 mph, with the strongest gusts expected in the higher elevations of the Sierra and gaps in mountainous terrain.

The most significant impact is expected on Friday when the chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase, particularly in Northern Shasta County and the Sierra crest. Winds could reach 45 mph in some areas, adding to the stormy conditions.

Residents are advised to prepare for below-normal temperatures, windy conditions, and the possibility of thunderstorms through Saturday, with hot weather and a moderate heat risk returning early next week.
