The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is gearing up for what is expected to be the busiest Labor Day travel period on record, screening over 17 million passengers from August 29 to September 4. The peak travel day is anticipated to be August 30, with TSA predicting 2.86 million screenings. This summer has seen unprecedented air travel volumes, with TSA screening an average of 2.7 million passengers daily since Memorial Day, totaling 239.8 million. The agency has already set a new record on July 7, screening over 3 million passengers in a single day.

TSA Administrator David Pekoske praised the efforts of TSA staff and emphasized the importance of the agency’s new checkpoint technology, which enhances security and improves the passenger experience. To ease travel, TSA recommends enrolling in TSA PreCheck, allowing passengers to skip removing shoes, belts, and other items during security checks. Travelers are also reminded that the REAL ID requirement goes into effect on May 7, 2025.
