Weather Update: Cooler Temperatures and Snow for Sierra Nevada, Central California

    2024-08-23

The National Weather Service Hanford reports significant weather changes for the region. Today and tomorrow, temperatures will drop to 10-15 degrees below average. A strong low-pressure system off the northern California coast is expected to bring a rare August snow event, with a 50-60 percent chance of a dusting at Tioga Pass on Saturday morning.

Alongside cooler temperatures, breezy winds are increasing the risk of grass fires, particularly in eastern Kern County, where relative humidity is around 10 percent.

Expect temperatures to rebound to near normal by Sunday, with a 40-80 percent chance of San Joaquin Valley highs exceeding 100 degrees by Tuesday.
