Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has received a significant boost for affordable housing initiatives, with the state Strategic Growth Council awarding over $14 million in Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grants. The funding will support three key projects: $35 million for North Berkeley Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), $25 million for El Cerrito Plaza TOD, and $25 million for 699 Ygnacio Valley Rd near Walnut Creek Station. These investments are set to advance construction within the next 1-2 years.

Additionally, BART will use part of the funds for infrastructure improvements, including $7 million for traction power substation renovations at Powell Station, $6 million for Daly City Station, and $1.25 million for upgrades at Walnut Creek Station, which will enhance lighting, signage, and security features. This funding highlights BART's commitment to integrating affordable housing with transit development.
