After an unseasonably strong low-pressure system brought much-needed rain to Northern California, clear skies and warmer weather are set to return to the Sacramento region this week. The storm left behind 0.50 to 1 inch of rain across much of the northern Sierra and less than 0.25 inches in the Central Valley on Saturday, providing a brief respite from the summer heat.

As the system moves east into Nevada, high pressure is building, bringing back the warm and dry conditions typical of late August. Temperatures will start to climb today, returning to near-average levels by Monday and then slightly above average as the week progresses. The Sacramento Valley could experience areas of Moderate HeatRisk later in the week.

In addition to the rising temperatures, a bit of north wind is expected today, with gusts of 15-25 mph possible along the western edge of the Sacramento Valley. Overall, the region is shifting back to more familiar late summer weather patterns, with clear skies and warm days ahead.
