California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a significant legal settlement with ticket reseller StubHub Inc. on Friday, addressing allegations that the company failed to provide timely refunds for canceled events during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The settlement, approved by the Los Angeles Superior Court, includes over $20 million in consumer restitution, a $295,000 penalty, and new terms for future ticket sales practices. The resolution comes after an investigation revealed that StubHub had deviated from its advertised refund policy at the onset of the pandemic.

Initially, StubHub had offered customers 120% credit towards future events instead of cash refunds when events were canceled. This policy shift led to widespread complaints and ultimately, the company reversed its stance in May 2021, beginning to provide cash refunds to affected California consumers.
