A routine traffic stop for speeding quickly escalated into a high-speed pursuit on Wednesday, leading to a crash and the arrest of an impaired driver, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hayward Office.

Officers Trenado and Villasenor were conducting speed enforcement on the freeway when they stopped a vehicle clocked at 93 mph, the CHP stated. Initially, the driver complied and pulled over, but the situation took a sudden turn when the driver became agitated and sped away, ignoring the officers' commands to remain at the scene, according to the CHP.

The officers immediately issued a "failure to yield" alert and pursued the fleeing vehicle. The chase intensified as the suspect attempted to exit the freeway at high speed, ultimately losing control and crashing near the off-ramp.

Despite the severity of the crash, the driver was uninjured and quickly apprehended by Officers Trenado and Villasenor, according to the CHP. Upon investigation, the officers determined that the driver was impaired at the time of the incident, the CHP stated.
