Langer's Deli, a beloved institution in downtown Los Angeles, is facing the possibility of closure, according to its owner, Norm Langer. The 77-year-old delicatessen, known for its iconic pastrami sandwiches, has been a staple of the community, with Langer, 79, having dedicated nearly his entire life to its operation.

The potential closure stems from ongoing public safety and homelessness challenges in the area surrounding MacArthur Park, where the deli is located. Langer shared his concerns in an interview with Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez, describing the situation as dire enough to make him consider shutting down the famed establishment.

Lopez, who highlighted the deli's significance to the community, referred to the possible closure as a "hole-in-your-soul development," reflecting the deep emotional and cultural impact Langer's Deli has had on Los Angeles for decades.
