The Pacific Northwest is bracing for a weather transition this week. A trough currently sweeping across the region is bringing persistent showers and below-normal temperatures today, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

The trough, accompanied by a cold front stretching from British Columbia to western Washington, is causing widespread clouds and rain. As the front moves east, rainfall will diminish, but showers and isolated thunderstorms could persist, particularly over the Cascades and higher elevations. The convergence zone will shift from King County to Pierce County throughout the day, with temperatures staying in the 60s.

By tonight, conditions are expected to dry out as high pressure builds over the area. Temperatures will drop to the mid-40s to lower 50s overnight, with clear skies and patchy fog developing.

Starting Wednesday, high pressure will usher in a return to warmer, drier weather. Temperatures are forecasted to rise into the 70s on Wednesday and the 80s on Thursday, making for a more summery feel as August winds down.

Looking ahead, the long-term forecast suggests above-normal temperatures will continue into the weekend, with a possible weak trough introducing some moisture and potential for isolated showers or thunderstorms. However, the exact impacts remain uncertain.
