The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Valley Division's Air Operations team made a significant impact in the East Bay on August 24, 2024, as CHP Air-21 provided crucial aerial support in Oakland. The operation, aimed at enhancing public safety, led to seven successful pursuits and multiple felony arrests thanks to the assistance of Air-21, the CHP stated.

The aerial unit, operating under the Golden Gate Division, played a pivotal role in the crackdown on crime by helping ground units during a series of high-intensity chases, according to the CHP. In addition to the pursuits, Air-21 also identified and facilitated the arrest of three trespassers found on the Bay Bridge suspension wires, the CHP added.

Governor Gavin Newsom supported the increased police presence, stating, “The current lawlessness in Oakland is unacceptable, and this surge aims to enhance safety and security for the people of Oakland and the East Bay.”
