California county gets grant to prosecute employers who cheat their workers out of hard earned pay

    2024-08-29

San Mateo County has accepted a nearly $740,000 state grant aimed at bolstering efforts to investigate and prosecute employers who attempt to cheat workers out of their rightful wages. The grant will fund a new deputy district attorney, a district attorney investigator, and additional forensic auditing resources for the District Attorney’s Office, according to San Mateo County.

This funding will be instrumental as the County launches a new Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement. The office will be a partnership between the County Executive's Office, the County Attorney's Office, and the District Attorney's Office, focusing on wage theft and workers' rights.
