    2024-08-30

As Labor Day weekend approaches, California airports are preparing for a significant surge in travelers, with flight bookings up 26% compared to last year, according to data from the travel-organizing app TripIt. San Francisco International (SFO) and Los Angeles International (LAX) are expected to be among the busiest in the nation on Friday, August 30, the peak travel day of the holiday weekend.

Nationwide, the travel boom extends beyond just flights. TripIt reports a 27% increase in international flight bookings, a 26% rise in accommodation reservations, and a 30% jump in rental car bookings. Many travelers are opting to extend their Labor Day trips, with the average domestic getaway stretching to 7.3 days and international journeys averaging 13.4 days.

Top domestic destinations for the weekend include major cities like New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas, with Los Angeles and San Francisco also making the list. Internationally, London, Paris, and Rome lead the way as the most popular choices for travelers.
