Northwest California is set to endure a significant heatwave as temperatures soar steadily through Thursday. The National Weather Service in Eureka reports that interior valleys will experience moderate to major heat risks, with highs ranging from 97°F to 107°F. Lake County is under a Heat Advisory from Wednesday morning through Thursday night, anticipating its hottest day on Thursday. Coastal regions will also warm, with temperatures reaching the low 80s as sea breezes develop.

Strong subsidence and offshore winds will keep coastal areas clear of stratus clouds until Thursday, when cloudy conditions are expected to return. Gusty winds in Del Norte County will maintain clear skies early in the week. A cooling trend is forecasted to begin Friday into the weekend as the high-pressure ridge shifts eastward, bringing slightly cooler and damp air to coastal counties. However, interior areas like Mendocino, Trinity, and Lake counties will continue to see triple-digit temperatures on Friday.

Additionally, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms in Del Norte and Trinity counties Friday afternoon and evening due to elevated instability. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and seek cooling as the region navigates through this intense heatwave.
