Central California is bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures potentially reaching near-record highs through Friday. The National Weather Service in Hanford reports a 40-70% chance of temperatures hitting or exceeding 105°F across much of the lower elevations, including the San Joaquin Valley and Kern County Deserts. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for Kern County Deserts from Thursday morning to Friday evening, while a Heat Advisory is in place for the San Joaquin Valley, West Side Hills, Lower Sierra Foothills, and Kern River Canyon during the same period.

In addition to the oppressive heat, low daytime humidity and poor overnight recovery are heightening the risk of grass fires, particularly in eastern Kern County and the West Side Hills. Residents are urged to exercise caution, especially in fire-prone areas.
