    Celebrated California restaurant serving elevated soul food named best in the nation

    Food & Wine magazine has awarded its top honor, Restaurant of the Year, to Oakland’s Burdell, a soul food spot located at 4640 Telegraph Ave. Known for its refined take on classic dishes, Burdell, helmed by Chef-owner Geoff Davis, has captured attention with inventive creations like chicken and waffles topped with chicken liver pâté and crispy chicken skin.

    "The menu highlights the farmers and artisans harvesting and creating excellent products around us," the restaurant's website stated. "Paired with the food is a robust list of wine and beverages from producers from around the World; focused on wine farmed and crafted with care and sustainable practices."

    This marks the third year that Food & Wine has named a single restaurant for this prestigious award. Burdell joins the ranks of top culinary spots, with San Francisco’s Reem’s previously recognized in 2018.
