Southern California is in the midst of a dangerous heatwave, with temperatures soaring to record levels across the region. Woodland Hills and Northridge hit a blistering 116 degrees yesterday, while Burbank Airport matched its all-time high of 114 degrees, previously recorded in July 2018 and September 2020. The intense heat, which will persist through the weekend, is part of a weather pattern bringing sweltering conditions to much of the forecast area.

Overnight relief has been minimal, with temperatures in some foothill and mountain locations staying in the 80s to low 90s due to a shallow marine inversion. Offshore winds have further contributed to the heat, and more areas could see overnight lows in the 70s and 80s, providing little respite from the extreme conditions.

Forecasters are predicting even hotter temperatures for today, with Woodland Hills potentially reaching 118 degrees, approaching its all-time high of 120 degrees set on September 6, 2020. Burbank Airport is also in line to break records, with a forecasted high of 115 degrees.

Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are in effect for nearly the entire region, urging residents to stay indoors, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Authorities are advising people to check on vulnerable populations and take precautions as the dangerous heat persists through the weekend.

Looking ahead, slow cooling is expected early next week, but normal temperatures may not return to some areas until Thursday or Friday of next week. For now, Southern Californians must endure another day of potentially record-breaking heat.
