Central California will experience another sweltering day today, with a 20% to 65% chance of temperatures reaching 105°F or higher in the San Joaquin Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford. Most of the region is expected to hit triple digits, prompting heat advisories and warnings through the evening.

A slight chance of thunderstorms (10% to 15%) is forecast for the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, while isolated storms could develop over the Kern County mountains and desert. These storms may bring gusty winds and increase the risk of grass fires in fire-prone areas, including the West Side Hills and eastern Kern County.

A cooling trend will begin Sunday, with temperatures gradually decreasing, though triple-digit heat may persist in some areas until early next week. By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels, with highs dropping below 90°F in parts of the Central Valley by midweek. Cooler weather is anticipated through the remainder of the week.
