The California State Coastal Conservancy has approved more than $48 million in funding for 22 projects aimed at protecting, restoring, and improving public access along the state's coast and coastal watersheds. This initiative is part of the Governor’s multi-billion-dollar California Climate Commitment.

    The funded projects include:

    • $1.24 million to Tamien Nation to support a Native fire crew for stewardship and fuel reduction work at Henry W. Coe State Park in Santa Clara County.
    • $6.6 million to the San Diego Unified Port District to construct Harbor Park, a 25-acre park with recreational amenities to enhance and replace features at Bayside Park on the Chula Vista Bayfront.
    • $994,197 distributed to 13 nonprofit organizations and one tribe for the Explore the Coast program, which aims to improve public access and inclusivity for an estimated 6,100 Californians, including low-income individuals, people of color, and those with disabilities.

Governor Gavin Newsom commented, "We’re continuing to invest in our coastline and expand access for Californians, making sure that more folks have better access for decades to come. That includes protecting these areas from the impacts of the climate crisis."
