The Desert Southwest is under the grip of high pressure, driving temperatures well above normal as the region heads into the new week. According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, this weather pattern will persist, with highs ranging from 104 to 111 degrees in lower desert areas, including southwestern Arizona and southeastern California.

Phoenix is expected to experience another day of extreme heat, potentially tying or breaking a daily record. The forecast calls for a high of 109 degrees, just short of the record 110 degrees set for today. Should Phoenix reach 110 degrees, it would mark the 59th day this year with temperatures at or above that level. An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for far southwestern Arizona and the Lower Colorado River Valley through Tuesday due to the Major HeatRisk.

While isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur this afternoon in central Arizona and parts of southeast California, drier air is expected to push through by midweek, reducing the chance of further rain. Additionally, a low-pressure system moving off the eastern Pacific will provide some relief by bringing cooling temperatures and bringing highs closer to seasonal averages.
