Central California is set to experience a cooling trend as an upper-level high-pressure system weakens, giving way to a trough from the Gulf of Alaska. While temperatures will remain above normal today, the triple digits will be limited. A more noticeable cool-down is expected by midweek, with high confidence (80-90%) that afternoon temperatures in the San Joaquin Valley will drop below 90 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service warns of elevated fire risks, particularly in eastern Kern County and the West Side Hills, due to low daytime humidity and poor overnight recovery. While humidities will slightly improve midweek, fire concerns will persist as another stronger trough is expected early next week, bringing further cooling and increased humidity levels.

By next week, Central California could see temperatures drop even further, with a 30-50% chance of highs dipping below 80 degrees.
