Caltrain is celebrating the start of its new electrified service schedule with a weekend of festivities and free rides starting Saturday, September 21, 2024. The new service promises faster, cleaner, quieter, and more frequent trains, marking a major milestone for public transit in the Bay Area.

To kick off the new era, Caltrain is hosting community festivals at the Palo Alto and San Mateo stations on September 21 and 22. Attendees can enjoy free train rides, local performances, food trucks, games, giveaways, and more from 2-6 p.m. each day.

Saturday’s event will take place at the Palo Alto Station, while Sunday’s celebration will be held at the San Mateo Station. Caltrain encourages guests to take public transportation, walk, or bike to the events, as parking is limited. A free bike valet will be provided at the Palo Alto event, and ample bike parking will be available at San Mateo.

Caltrain will offer free rides all weekend with service every 30 minutes, including a special South County Connector train between Gilroy and San Jose on September 21, allowing residents to easily attend the Palo Alto event. Full weekend schedules are available for those planning their trips.

These events are free and open to the public, offering a great opportunity to experience Caltrain's modern electric trains and enjoy community activities along the corridor.
