As consumer preferences shift towards convenience, a new survey from Deloitte reveals that 52% of shoppers now value it more than ever before, prompting grocers to adapt or risk falling behind. The survey highlights a growing trend where consumers prioritize ease, with 82% of shoppers saying convenience drives their fresh food choices. In response, 85% of grocers are investing heavily to enhance convenience, from quicker checkouts to streamlined store layouts.

Despite concerns over competition from internet grocery stores and third-party apps, grocers are advised to focus on traditional competitors like local grocers, restaurants, and even dollar stores. Notably, 53% of consumers find planning meals a major hassle, creating a significant opportunity for grocers to leverage Generative AI (GenAI) to aid in meal planning. With 80% of grocers optimistic about GenAI's potential, it's poised to become a crucial tool in attracting and retaining customers.
