Southern California will experience cooler-than-normal temperatures and a chance of light rain starting Sunday as a low-pressure system moves into the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Los Angeles.

The weekend will see minimal changes in weather, with today and Saturday featuring temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Coastal areas and valleys will continue to experience a deep marine layer, with clouds and fog lingering during the morning hours. Although some valleys may warm slightly today, temperatures will still remain below normal. Light winds, generally under 15 mph, are expected across the region, with gustier conditions in the deserts.

On Sunday, a more dramatic cooling trend will take hold as an unseasonably cold upper low-pressure system moves into Northern California. This system will push temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below normal in Southern California through the middle of next week. The deepening marine layer could lead to slower-than-usual clearing of clouds in coastal and valley areas, with a slight chance of drizzle in upslope regions Sunday morning.
