The Inland Northwest is set to experience a mix of dry conditions and scattered showers as the region transitions from Friday into the weekend.

Today, residents can expect a mainly dry day with a mix of sun and clouds. Scattered light showers will persist in the Idaho Panhandle this morning, but conditions will improve throughout the day as a low-pressure system moves east and high clouds increase. Temperatures will be in the 70s, with moderate westerly winds gusting up to 20 mph.

Friday night into Saturday, a new shortwave will bring light rain to the area. The heaviest showers are expected along the Cascade Crest and the Selkirks in northeastern Washington and northern Idaho. However, overall rainfall will be minimal, ranging from a trace to a tenth of an inch. After this system passes, most areas will enjoy a dry start to the weekend, although scattered showers may develop in the northern mountains, with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Saturday night into Sunday, the region will see another low-pressure system moving down the Pacific Northwest coast, bringing a weak frontal band into southeastern Washington and north-central Idaho. This will result in light showers, particularly in the North Cascades and Kettle Mountains, with overall rainfall amounts remaining low.

Looking ahead to early next week, Monday is expected to be mild and mostly dry with temperatures in the 70s. A deeper trough is anticipated to bring increased chances of rain by Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly in north Idaho and eastern Washington. Rainfall amounts could reach 0.25 inches or more in some areas, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
