Home improvement giant Home Depot has agreed to a nearly $2 million settlement to resolve a civil complaint filed by several California district attorneys. The lawsuit accused the company of engaging in false advertising and unfair competition practices.

As part of the settlement, Home Depot will pay $1.7 million in civil penalties and an additional $277,251 to cover investigation costs and support future consumer protection enforcement efforts. Although Home Depot did not admit to any wrongdoing, the company cooperated fully with the investigation, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, stating, “False advertising and unfair competition are serious offenses that undermine consumer trust and distort the marketplace.”
